Our Story
So here's how it all began. Dr. Michael Berkenblit had
two wonderful dogs named Woody and Katy who went to
visit patients in a hospice facility. His friend and
co-worker, Michelle Rivera, served as their escort and
took them to visit the patients. She wrote about her
experiences in her first book,
Hospice Hounds. Well,
those visits gave us an idea. We saw how much the
people enjoyed the dogs, we figured we would branch
out, so we began visiting schools with our dogs as well.
That led to a second book,
Canines in the Classroom.

But it led to something more, and that was Animals 101,
Inc. Now, we visit schools, hospitals, prisons, just about
anywhere they'd have us, with our certified therapy
dogs. Animals 101, Inc., was founded on September 11,
2001. It was something good that came out of that day.
Our corporate colors are the many beautiful shades and
colors of the Seal point Siamese cat, the Rottie, or the
German Shepherd Dog.

Michelle has written more books, including Do Dogs
Have Belly Buttons? and The Simple Little Vegan Slow
Cooker.

Her newest book, The Simple Little Vegan Dog is
available now and is book two of a series of
"Simple Little Vegan" books.

Watch for Michelle's next book: On Dogs & Dying,
Stories of the Hospice Hounds, spring 2010

Dr. Berkenblit runs Village Animal Clinic, a sweet
little hospital with a whole lotta heart!
Everything that Animals 101 is and does
and accomplishes is all as a result of the
efforts of Dr. Berkenblit and the staff
